8/24/2018 - Bobby Long, Marielle Kraft & Zach Reyes | St. James – Whisper Vineyards

Bobby Long was born in Wigan near Manchester, grew up in Wiltshire, and, at eighteen, moved to London. Years later, in 2008, one of the songs he wrote on made its way onto the “Twilight” soundtrack. A year later, Bobby moved to the United States and his career has taken off ever since. Bobby Long recorded with ATO records, toured with bands such as Iron and Wine, and performed at festivals, such as Bonnaroo and Austin City Limits. He moved over to Compass Records for his last album “Ode To Thinking,” which was made possible by a hugely successful PledgeMusic Campaign, receiving support from over 750 pledgers. In between albums, Bobby also wrote two poetry books. Now, when he is not too busy singing “Moana” songs to his son, Bobby finds himself recording a new record and still playing gigs. Bobby Long lived in London when Sofar Sounds started there, but played his first show on Long Island, where he said “everyone here is as normal as me,” which he loved. Songs to check out are “Serpentine,” “Nautical,” and “Maserati,” which will be released on his new record.

Sofar Sounds vet, Marielle Kraft, has lived in a number of places, from Rhode Island to Delaware and finally in D.C., where she taught sixth grade English. This past May, however, Marielle decided to leave her teaching job to pursue her dream of creating and performing music full time. Marielle is a singer songwriter who just finished her first two tours ever this summer, where she hit spots along the Northeast and Southeast coasts, including two Sofar shows in Atlanta and Raleigh. Marielle draws in a lot of inspiration from her experiences with love and heartbreak, which has resulted in comparisons to Taylor Swift and Sarah Bareilles. Songs to check out are “Box,” “How Far You Feel,” and her newly released single, “Test Drive.”

A native Long Islander, Zach Reyes’ first concert was Green Day. The band was going to bring someone on stage with them and asked the crowd who could play guitar, which led to Zach raising his hand. When asked who could also sing, Zach lowered his hand and chickened out. Years later, however, this Farmingdale singer-songwriter proved to Sofar Sounds that he can definitely do both. Zach Reyes is currently recording his EP, which will be filled with songs reflecting his life experiences, and is inspired by the artists and environment around him on Long Island. Songs to check out are “Feels Good,” “With You,” and “All Night Long,” which has not been recorded yet, but will be featured on his EP.
